LIFE Natural Adapt 4 Rural Areas is an environmental project, funded by LIFE programme Within the scope of climate action, more specifically climate change adaptation, with a total budget of €1,838,005. It is a project resulting from a partnership between Município de Vila Nova de Famalicão and Águas do Norte.
Project main goal
To implement innovative and demonstrative climate change adaptation measures that contribute to sustainable water management in the Ribeira de Fradelos Basin, reconciling economic activities and the sustainability of water resources, despite the impacts of climate change, taking into account the strategies and obligations of beneficiaries as well as EU policies.
Current impacts of climate change in the project area include:
- Increased duration of the drought period.
- Changes in flood event patterns over the last two decades;
- Flash floods, with high water velocity transporting significant amounts of sediment, thus promoting soil erosion;
